Journal # 7: Ke$ha, Warrior Princess

The article “Ke$ha, Warrior Princess” written by Steven Hayden explains Ke$ha’s recent success which has come from her trashy music in her recent albums. He refers to her as brilliant idiot. He explains her horrible high pitched voice to be just what the pop culture needs to break away from its pure clean ways and claims that she creates something dumber, smarter, more moronic, and more ingenious than what came before. I can’t conclude much from this article except for the fact that Steven is not a fan of Ke$has music.

Ke$has New Album Warrior
What I do not think Steven realizes, or at least what he did not include in his article is that Ke$ha is an artist who is popular mainly among young girls. Her auto tuned high pitched voice sounds good to thirteen year old girls. Steven really shouldn't be listening to Ke$ha in the first place because obviously she is going to sound bad to a man. But I do admit that I did used to enjoy Ke$ha and her high pitched voice and rebel attitude when I was young. Her new music has changed to a more rock style which is where the article gets the Warrior part of article comes from. Ke$ha has a warrior side. I will agree that Ke$ha is rather trashy in the lyrical stance but the way she presents her music it is what really attracts people in my opinion as well as her rebellious ways. What do others think of Ke$has high voice and bad lyrics?

Journal #5: Brief Screening Report

Into the Wild

I believe the opening scene is among one of the most important scenes portrayed from the film Into the Wild directed by Sean Penn. It starts the movie off in what is presumed, a couple seconds later, to be the dream of a mother. In the dream, a dark blurry young man is saying “mom” repeatedly in a dark room until suddenly the scene changes to a dark room when the woman wakes up in terror crying. This dream must have been reoccurring because the woman says “I wasn't dreaming this time, Walt”, Walt being her husband and the father.  She continued to shake and cry saying “I heard him, I heard him, I heard Chris”. This is when I realized the young man in the starting was most likely the main character. This scene is important for the character because in future scenes you see he is alive and the film is ultimately about his life. From the opening scene and title I was able to infer that the man in the dream was the main character and that he was lost in the wilderness somewhere or dead. The mother continues to say she heard him and wasn't imagining it. The last piece of dialogue in that scene was from the man sleeping next to her. He said “I know Billie”, this is when I realized the mothers name is Billy.  You can tell that this scene is also important by the way it abruptly starts the film and then all of a sudden switches over to a scene with the main character. Opinions of important scenes in a movie vary from person to person and I am curious to find out what others consider important scenes in the movie I viewed.

Journal #3: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

The Cover of the movie
Heath Ledger
My favorite movie is The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I love this movie for a number of reasons. One of main reasons being it was the last film Heath Ledger was in. Most people thought that the movie that caused Heath psychological problems was The Dark Night but this movie is so twisted and crazy that it could have caused him some problems as well.

I had a crush on Heath growing up and he died during shooting the end of the film. The director incorporated three more actors, two being Jude Law and Johnny Depp, after Heaths death to play his role as a man who changes appearances through time in the “imaginarium”. I loved the fact that the director didn't cut Heaths parts out, but instead cleverly thought of a new way to keep all his scenes in and still keep the main character in the film. It gave Heath fans like me a last moment with him.

Another reason I love this movie is because of how strange and mysterious it is. Strange and mysterious is a bad way to sum up the movie because it releases so many thoughts and vibes throughout the duration of the film. I respond to the art side of the film and creativeness specifically in the film because all the scenes “in the imaginarium” were all scenes created from famous paintings. Each scene is so different and unique; it keeps me entertained throughout the whole film. I love the special effects too, it blows my mind. It opens up a whole new imaginary world in my head and brings out the child in me all while bringing out a new way of thinking.

This movie is so hard to describe, you just must watch it. I love this movie because it brings out a new view and world in my head. I respond more to the formal elements of a film. Not many people have seen this film and even less people have heard of it. I request everyone who enjoys strange mind-blowing films to watch this one. However, I am warning you if you watch this movie once, you will have to watch it at least one more time to fully watch the movie.

Journal #2: It's Always Sunny

The Beautiful Cast of Sunny

In the article “Pop-Pop: the Final Solution (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia)” Emily Guendelsberger who is the author, explains the show and crazy cast in “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia”. She focuses on how they are constantly coming up with new ridiculous and dark ides to keep the show entertaining.

I chose this topic because I am a huge fan of the Television show. I didn't start watching the show in the first season, but instead the third. The author emphasizes how the cast is becoming more “evil” throughout each following show. I would agree with the author. The cast is constantly getting into trouble and coming up with ridiculous ideas that they don’t intend to be evil, but end up being rather “evil”. However, evil is a harsh word and not the best word to describe the casts bad choices. Like I said before, they don’t intend for the things they do to be evil but their stupidity and the way they handle situations gives them this label. This is the point why I watch the show; the evilness is hilarious to me. The show is so hilarious probably because the main characters in the show are also the creators/producers of the show. This is something I didn't know prior to reading the article and it explains a lot to me about the show. This allows the cast to be able to incorporate their own ideas or quotes within the scenes to further the comedy.

Who else has seen this show? What do you think of the casts' "evilness" throughout the show?

Journal #1: Pissed off Packer Fans
Final Call of the Game
Notice the signals from the Refs

David Maraniss’ article “Winnings Not the Only Thing”, he talks about a football game involving the Packers and Seahawks and more importantly, the final call of the game. In the last second Russell Wilson, the Seahawks QB, threw the ball into the end zone where it was caught by multiple players including a packer. The refs were placed in a tough situation at that point. One of the refs was signaling for an interception by the packers while the other ref along with the Seahawks head coach, were signaling for a touchdown. This was the turning point for many Green Bay fans, as well as David Maraniss.

David stated that he wondered if the packers would've acted the same if the roles were switched. I agree with David that Winning isn't everything however, in a situation like this, winning is important. With the packers being Super bowl champs only 2 years ago, they still have a status to withhold for their fans.  Almost every game this year has resulted in a close finish. This game however, was particularly close. Even though David was rather biased in the article, I agree with him in the fact that the Packers would not act this way if the roles were switched.

Maraniss puts down Russell Wilson in the article. I dated a boy who plays for the Wisconsin Badgers and I had the opportunity to meet Russell Wilson multiple times last year. Wilson is a very nice man, and in my opinion wouldn't do anything unfair. Maraniss said he called it a “tough call” in his post-game interview and I believe Wilson was right on that. Maraniss has no right to justify whether or not Wilson was being just because Aaron Rogers would have said the same thing. What do you think the Packers would have done if the position was switched?

Ke$ha's new album.. Warrior

What I do not think Steven realizes, or at least what he did not include in his article is that Ke$ha is an artist meant for young girls. Her Auto Tuned high pitched voice sounds good to us when we are young and about the age of 13. Steven really shouldn't be listening to Ke$ha because obviously she is going to sound bad to a man. But I do admit that I did used to enjoy Ke$ha and her high pitched voice and rebel attitude when I was young.
